DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Minutes from the Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House and other city-centre attractions, the InterContinental Amstel combines opulent grandeur with captivating intimacy. A monumental staircase and crystal chandeliers help account for its grandeur. Meanwhile, its welcoming ambience begins with the Clefs d'Or concierges at its antique reception desk.
With 150 years of history to its name, The Amstel is a ‘grand residence’ to its core. Whether you are drawn to the fine dining of the Michelin-starred La Rive, or the simpler seasonal dishes of the Brasserie, your evening will unfold against a backdrop of understated elegance.
With only 79 rooms and 24 suites – all decorated in distinctive, individual styles – the Amstel holds to the belief that a perfect day begins with an exquisite night’s sleep. And it delivers on this promise with the ideal place to relax: a state-of-the art health club and spa that includes a heated river-level indoor pool, sauna, steamroom and jacuzzi.
WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT THE HOTEL
- Wining. There are countless gems in La Rive’s 1000-strong wine list. And the Amstel’s three-strong team of sommeliers will help you find them. Surrender yourself entirely and they’ll pair every course.
- Dining. A choice of six-course menus, show-stopping French and Mediterranean dishes and a stunning riverside view. It’s small wonder La Rive has been voted the best restaurant in Amsterdam. And when you’ve exhausted Executive Chef Roger Rassin’s signature creations, why not try its little brother The Brasserie? Or book dinner on one of the hotel’s three 100-year old saloon boats as it tours the city’s canals?
- Reclining. With some of the largest guestrooms in Amsterdam, the Amstel’s suites are the perfect retreat from the city. Shuttered windows and exceptional beds ensure deep, undisturbed sleep – surrounded by elegant antique furniture and Delft porcelain.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
ROOMS & SUITES
Total number of rooms: 55
Total number of suites: 24
Number of floors: 4
It’s a matter of minutes from the Amstel to Amsterdam’s best boutiques or its most celebrated cultural icons, such as the Van Gogh Museum. However, staying in has never been so attractive. A rare degree of thought has been expanded on the suites. Each one has been luxuriously appointed and reflects a different design influence. Amongst others, the Champagne Suite springs from a partnership with Dom Perignon; the Rembrandt celebrates the great Dutch artist; and the Penthouse runs over two floors with a riverside balcony. All are air-conditioned, with every contemporary comfort, marble bathrooms and sliding doors that can create private lounges. However, if space is your first priority, then opt for the three connected Presidential suites, which at 1500 square feet are simply palatial.
